South Korean President Lee Jae Myung: ”We must make efforts to repair inter-Korean relations... National security is important in advance prevention”
On the 10th, President Lee Jae-myung said, "We must make efforts to repair the severed inter-Korean relations. Peace and coexistence between the two Koreas is the most realistic and practical option for the security of the Republic of Korea."
President Lee made the remarks while presiding over the first National Security Council (NSC) meeting since taking office in the presidential office that afternoon, according to a briefing by presidential spokesperson Kang Yoo-jung.
President Lee also said, "If national security is destabilized, the economy will collapse and our daily lives will not be safe. I ask that we pool our wisdom to ensure the safety of the people's lives."
In particular, President Lee said, "National security is more about prevention than reaction. We must consider not only the changes in the turbulent international order, but also the domestic political situation and North Korean variables that reflect the unique characteristics of the Korean Peninsula."
"We need to investigate this," he said. "All relevant ministries and agencies need to work together to prioritize national interests and strive for peace, practicality, and the safety of our people."
The meeting began at 4:40 p.m. and lasted for about two hours and 10 minutes. Kang said the meeting was a forum to review major security issues expected to occur in the second half of the year and discuss countermeasures.
He explained that it had been carried forward.
