Kim held a press conference at the People's Power Party headquarters in Jeju on the same day and said, "During the impeachment trial, the Constitutional Court unanimously decided to remove him from office."
However, he emphasized that he "cannot agree with the logic that those who opposed impeachment were defending martial law." He continued, "Those who supported impeachment and those who opposed it should each support impeachment with their own patriotism and sincerity.
"Even in the process of the party opposing impeachment, I believe the will expressed at the time by the National Assembly, which is a constitutional body, should be respected," he added.
Regarding his own proposed "five major reform plans," including nullifying the party's argument against impeachment, he said, "The best way to proceed is to gain consent through a party member opinion poll."
Chairman Kim said, "It is difficult to conduct public opinion polls on everything, but the starting point of change is to prepare a framework that allows more opinions to be collected to decide party policy. I will continue to work hard to ensure that this is carried through during my term.
"I will do my best," he said. Kim's term of office is due to expire on the 30th of this month. Kim also said that Lee Jun-seok, a lawmaker from the Reform New Party, attended the People Power Party plenary session.
When asked about Lee's advice to support the conservative camp, he said, "I'm grateful for his good advice. Every time I meet with Rep. Lee, I tell him, 'Since the conservative camp itself is on the verge of collapse, even now, I want to lend my strength to the conservative camp.'
He said, 'I want you to do that.'"
