Seoul rises 15 places in the ”Top 1000 Cities in the World” rankings... ”Human capital” ranks 5th - Korean media

In the ranking of the world's 1,000 cities, Seoul, South Korea, rose to 15th place overall and 2nd in Asia. It was ranked 5th in the world for "human capital," but received a low rating for "environment," including air quality.
According to the British research firm Oxford Economics, in the 2025 World Cities Index, which evaluates 1,000 cities around the world, New York in the US, London in the UK, and Frankfurt in the UK,
Paris took the top three spots, while Seoul ranked 15th. Meanwhile, Japan was ranked 9th, the highest among Asian countries. The ranking was based on last year's data and was based on factors such as "economy," "human capital," "quality of life," and "social security."
The ranking is based on an analysis of five areas: "economic stability," "environment," and "governance." Seoul rose 26 places from 41st place last year, and recorded a particularly high ranking of 5th in "human capital."
On the other hand, Japan ranked 129th in "Quality of Life," 514th in "Environment," and 147th in "Governance."
Extreme temperatures due to climate change and political uncertainty were both rated negatively in "governance."
