China and foreign R&D centers' R&D expenses up 86.5% in 10 years - Chinese media

According to the "Multinational Enterprises in China" report released by the Ministry of Commerce's Institute for International Trade and Economic Cooperation on the 19th, multinational enterprises are accelerating the establishment of research and development centers in China.
According to statistics, as of May this year, the total number of foreign R&D centers in Shanghai had reached 603. In addition, Beijing will have 10,000 newly approved foreign R&D centers by 2024.
The number of centers in China has exceeded 110, reaching 221 as of January this year. According to the report, China has gradually improved its intellectual property protection system and science and technology opening-up system in recent years.
In line with this trend, foreign companies are continuing to increase their willingness to invest in research and development, and the scale of their investment is also on the rise.
The number of R&D personnel at foreign-affiliated companies with R&D expenditures of 2015-101 billion yen or more rose 33.2% from 629,000 to 838,000.
During the same period, the number of valid invention patents for foreign-affiliated companies of a certain size or larger increased by 75,000 to 375,760 million formers (approximately 4 trillion yen).
The number of new products sold increased 336% from 4.5 trillion former to 7 trillion former, up from 4.5 trillion yen.
