South Korea's ruling Democratic Party said President Lee Jae-myung's first overseas visit since taking office "demonstrated South Korea's return to the international community."
A spokesman for the ruling party said at a press conference on the 18th, "President Lee has successfully completed his first summit diplomacy since taking office and is now on his way home. South Korea has finally returned to the global diplomatic stage with dignity."
"It was a meaningful diplomatic forum that demonstrated that we overcame the December 3rd civil war and firmly defended our democratic republic," he said, adding, "We will continue to prioritize national interests, which President Lee has emphasized."
"It was a stage that successfully drew the first blueprint for practical diplomacy that will bring about peace and prosperity," he added. "Having taken the first step in summit diplomacy, we will wisely resolve pending issues together with the people," he added.
The ruling party will also support President Lee and build a Korea that stands tall in the world," he said. President Lee returned to Korea on the 17th (local time) after completing his schedule in Canada to attend the G7 Summit.
During his stay in Canada, President Lee met with leaders of 11 countries and international organizations, and spoke twice at the G7 Summit on energy security and AI.
