Taiwanese plane ”mis-landed” at Gimhae Airport... ”Disaster” averted thanks to emergency response from control tower = South Korea
An accident occurred at Gimhae International Airport in Busan, South Korea, when a Taiwanese aircraft landed on an unauthorized runway. However, due to the emergency response of the control tower,
It was found that the collision was avoidable. According to the Korea Airports Corporation on the 13th, a passenger plane operated by China Airlines, which departed from Taipei, Taiwan at around 3:57 pm on the previous day (12th), crashed into the same airport.
The plane landed on runway 18L (left side) at Gimhae International Airport at 7:19 pm on the 2nd. However, the plane had been cleared to land on runway 18R on the right side, so the pilot was not authorized to do so.
At the time, a Jin Air (a Korean low-cost airline) passenger plane was approaching the left runway to take off.
Fortunately, the control tower noticed this and quickly interrupted the Jin Air flight's approach, thus averting a collision.
South Korea's Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport has classified the incident as a "minor aviation accident" and is investigating the exact circumstances, including pilot error.
An "aviation minor accident" is an incident that could have had a significant impact on aviation safety but did not actually result in an accident.
