On the 1st, Hwang Kyo-ahn, an independent candidate in the South Korean presidential election, announced his intention to "withdraw from the race and support Kim Moon-soo, the candidate of the ruling party's People Power Party."
Candidate Hwang said in a YouTube broadcast on the same day, "I will support candidate Kim because we need to gather all our strength. I support what candidate Kim is doing."
"I will decline the bid and support candidate Kim, and do my best to ensure that the administration can continue," he said. "The most pressing issue is the election of Lee Jae-myung, the candidate of the Democratic Party of Korea.
"We must stop this," he said, stressing, "Candidate Kim is the candidate who can fight against anti-national forces."
