LGU+ opens stores exclusively for foreigners, providing services at 67 locations nationwide (Korea)
Telecommunications giant LG U+ has announced that it will turn its major locations across the country into stores that also cater to foreign customers, making it easier for foreigners living in Korea to sign up for telecommunications services.
To start with, 67 stores nationwide will be gradually converted into locations specializing in foreign customers. Information displays for foreigners will be installed inside and outside.
The 17 branches in areas with a particularly large foreign population will be set up as Global Telecom Centers, which specialize in providing consultations to foreigners.
The company plans to make the store "a foreigner-only store." To accommodate this, the company has increased the number of staff from various countries, including China and Russia, by about 170. Application and terms of use documents are available in Korean, English, Chinese, and Vietnamese.
The app will be available in a total of 17 languages, including Arabic, Mongolian, and Uzbek. Previously, the app was only available in four languages - Korean, English, Chinese, and Vietnamese - but now the number of languages has more than quadrupled.
In relation to this, the number of foreigners living in Korea continues to increase every year. According to immigration statistics from the Ministry of Justice, the number of foreigners living in Korea is expected to increase from 2.03 million in 2020 to 1.00 million in 2024.
The number of foreign residents increased by 23% to 2.65 million. The number of long-term residents increased by 26% during the same period, from 1.61 million to 2.04 million.
