Shop owners angry at Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung's ”cost of coffee is 120 won” comment: ”I can't stand this” (South Korea)
The Nationwide Coffee Shop Solidarity expressed anger at Democratic Party presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung's statement that "the cost of coffee is 120 won (about 13 yen)."
On the 19th, the National Coffee Shop Owners Solidarity released a statement in response to presidential candidate Lee Jae-myung's remark that "the cost of coffee is 120 won."
They held a press conference at the National Diet on the same day and said, "For all of us who work hard to make a cup of coffee, this development is a great loss to us all."
"This is an issue that cannot be taken lightly. If coffee shops could be run with a cost price of just 120 won, many self-employed people would not be suffering as they are now," he said.
He added, "Remarks that ignore reality and belittle the hard work of self-employed people working hard on the front lines cannot be dismissed as simple mistakes. They threaten the survival of all of us and are a threat to the lives of the people.
"It started with an overly easy-going understanding that the reality should not be distorted any further and the efforts of the self-employed should not be taken lightly. Coffee shops across the country should not be allowed to continue to distort reality any further and underestimate the efforts of the self-employed.
I ask all shop owners to join us in raising their voices so that our reality can be made clear."
