韓国・チェコ、原子力と先端産業で連携強化…MOU14件協約締結
Korea and Czech Republic strengthen cooperation in nuclear power and advanced industries... 14 MOUs signed
On the 7th (local time), South Korea and the Czech Republic agreed to strengthen cooperation in cutting-edge industrial fields such as nuclear power, future automobiles, and robots.
On the same day, the special envoys and parliamentary delegation met with Prime Minister Fiala and Senate President Vystrcil in Prague for discussions. A total of 14 agreements and memoranda of understanding (MOUs) have been signed between the two countries, mainly in the fields of nuclear power and advanced industries.
Due to the decision of the Czech court, the signing ceremony for the construction contract for two nuclear reactors at Dukovany between Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power (KHNP) and Czech Electricity Corporation (CEZ), which was scheduled for the same day, has been postponed.
However, other scheduled dates were met as planned. The special envoys, including An, paid a courtesy visit to Prime Minister Fiala and agreed to cooperate in a wide range of fields, including industry, energy, construction, infrastructure, and science and technology.
In the presence of Prime Minister Fiala, Ahn and Czech Minister of Industry and Trade Brček signed the Korea-Czech Nuclear Industry Cooperation Agreement, which embodies the MOU concluded last year.
The two countries also announced their intention to support the construction of the Dukovany nuclear power plant, as well as to cooperate on joint expansion into third countries and the construction of two additional nuclear power plants in the Czech Republic.
In addition to nuclear cooperation, the two ministers also exchanged views on cooperation in cutting-edge industries such as batteries and automobiles.
Afterwards, in the presence of both ministers, Han Hwa Nuclear Power and the Korean consortium "Team Korea" signed 10 agreements and memorandums of understanding with Czech companies for the construction of a new nuclear power plant in the Czech Republic.
The industry ministers of the two countries also signed a Korea-Czech Republic battery cooperation memorandum of understanding (MOU), strengthening their joint response to European Union (EU) battery regulations, which are currently being formulated.
In parallel with expanding cooperation in the nuclear field, the two countries will also materialize strategic cooperation in the field of advanced industries.
Based on the "Korea Automotive Industry Cooperation Strategy," the Korea Automotive Research Institute and the Czech Technical University of Ostrava signed a letter of agreement (LOA) to establish an industrial cooperation center in the Czech Republic.
The Korea Robot Industry Promotion Institute and the Czech Republic's Technical University in Prague have signed an LOA to establish the Robot Advanced Industry Cooperation Center, while the Korea Robot Industry Promotion Institute and the Czech Republic's Technical University in Prague have signed an LOA to establish the Robot Advanced Industry Cooperation Center.
Meanwhile, the parliamentary delegation and the government envoy met with Senate President Vystrcil to discuss a wide range of cooperation at the parliamentary level, including in the areas of atomic energy, advanced industry, energy and construction.
"As we mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Korea and the Czech Republic and the 10th anniversary of our strategic partnership, the two countries have built a stronger relationship of trust," Ahn said.
"We will continue to work closely with the Czech side to ensure that the situation is resolved."
