Acting President Lee Ju-ho tells medical students, ”We will not revoke the confirmed repeat and expulsion orders... We will handle it according to the principle” (South Korea)
Lee Ju-ho, acting deputy prime minister and minister of education, said on the 5th, "Each medical school will determine who will be held back or expelled by the 7th and will handle the matter according to the principle.
"We will not revoke it," he emphasized. In a message to students regarding the 2025 medical school graduation semester that was distributed on the same day, Acting President Lee Kwon said, "There are misleading theories among some medical school students.
"The government has requested that medical schools submit information on the current status of students who have been held back or expelled by the 7th, and some medical students have been individually complaining about their experiences.
There are widespread claims that it is impossible for schools to hold back or expel students on a large scale, and that even if students are held back or expelled, they will be able to return in the future through flexible academic measures.
In order to correct this, Acting President Lee sent his first official message to medical students on the 2nd after assuming his position as acting president.
Acting President Lee said, "I would like to reaffirm that there will be no further flexibility in academic affairs. In the event that vacancies arise due to expulsion for non-return, the government will facilitate the transfer of only those vacancies to each medical school.
"The final list of students eligible for education in the 2025 academic year will be finalized on the 7th, and the government will now work closely with universities to ensure that returning students can receive their education normally," he said.
"We will do everything in our power to support classes and protect students so that they can continue to attend classes," he said. He also asked students who have already returned to classes to "trust the government and the university and focus on their studies."
"I ask students who are still hesitant to return to work not to rely on unconfirmed rumors and gamble their precious futures as medical professionals," Lee said.
He emphasized.
