Han Dong-hoon, former leader of the People Power Party (ruling party), who dropped out of the presidential primary, said on the 3rd, "I accept the decision of party members and the people."
Han attended the National Congress held at Kintex in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province that afternoon.
In a speech at the party convention, shortly after candidate Kim Moon-soo was selected as the final candidate, Han said, "My journey ends here today, but I hope that our candidate Kim Moon-soo will lead the Republic of Korea to prosperity."
"I ask you to prevent this country from becoming a dangerous place. I will support (Candidate Kim) from behind," he said. "I will be with the people and party members on sunny days, rainy days, and snowy days."
In the final poll of the People Power Party runoff election held on the 1st and 2nd, candidate Kim received 455,044 votes, or 56.53% of the votes. Former Chairman Han received a final total of 349,000 votes.
He received 916 votes, or 43.47% of the vote. The poll was conducted among party members (50%), People's Power supporters and independents (50%). The final voter turnout was 52.62%.
