Man in his 30s arrested for posting ”Lee Jae Myung assassination squad wanted” - South Korea
Police have arrested a man in his 30s after he posted threatening messages online against Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party of Korea's presidential candidate.
The Samsan Police Station in Incheon arrested a man in his 30s, Mr. A, on suspicion of blackmail and is currently investigating the matter.
On the 20th, at around 11pm, Mr. A posted on social media from his home in Bupyeong-gu, Incheon, saying, "I'm looking for a group to assassinate Lee Jae-myung."
Police identified Mr. A based on his IP address and other information, arrested the man at his home the previous afternoon, and took him to the police station on a voluntary basis.
When questioned by police, Mr. A stated that he had posted the message jokingly.
A police official said, "We will check whether the Democratic Party of Korea has any intention to punish A and then refer him to the prosecution.
"We will decide whether to prosecute the perpetrator or not," he said. The crime of intimidation is one of the "crimes against will and without punishment (crimes in which the perpetrator cannot be punished if the victim does not want punishment)."
Criminal punishment is not possible. A person in his 70s who posted on social media in January this year, "Let's make a group to arrest Lee Jae Myung. The conditions are that he has a black belt in martial arts and is not afraid of death," was referred to the prosecution last month.
It was.
