Han Dong-hoon, People Power's presidential primary candidate: ”Former President Yoon Seok-yeol is a thing of the past...We must cross the sea of martial law” (South Korea)
Han Dong-hoon, the ruling party's presidential primary candidate, said on the 18th, "Let's put former President Yoon Seok-yeol in the past. And we will move forward to the future.
"We cannot win this presidential election unless we overcome the sea of martial law," he said. Candidate Han held a press conference at his 'People First' headquarters in Yeongdeungpo-gu, Seoul on the same day.
In his camp office, he responded to reporters' questions about former President Yoon's creation of a new party. When asked about the competitiveness of the People Power primary election, candidate Han said, "People Power supporters,
"I think everyone is focused on who the winning candidate is and why and how they need to win. We will win," he said.
He continued, "This is an election that has been held under martial law.
"The public is not going to want to let those who essentially defend martial law win, or those who say martial law is not a big deal or who actually defend it," he said.
Candidate Han said, "The weight of public opinion in favor of impeachment is overwhelmingly high. The power of the people is the foundation of martial law.
"The only way to win is to cross the sea head-on and with dignity. We are the ones who can do this. If there are any other candidates who can do this, please let us know."
He also said, "I say that the People's Power Party is the party that directly prevented martial law. The other (candidates) cannot tell that story (to the public)."
Candidate Han held a press conference that day and named Rep. Cho Kyung-tae (elected six times) and former Rep. Choi Jae-hyun, who is also the former head of the Board of Audit, as co-election strategy committee members.
Rep. Choi said, "I have decided to move forward with candidate Han. As the head of the ruling party, candidate Han has been working hard to implement the system established by the Constitution and laws amid the chaos and urgency of the declaration of emergency law.
"As the leader of the ruling party, Candidate Han made a very difficult and tough decision, but it is the right choice that is in line with the common sense of the people," he said.
"It is time to open up a new political order and future for the reality given by the Constitutional Court's decision," he said.
"As members of the ruling party, I agreed with candidate Han that we must make a new depart based on serious reflection," he said. "If President Han Dong-hoon is elected, the first
"The 7th Republic will be born. I have decided to lend my support to candidate Han so that he can complete his task. I will open up a new era together with candidate Han, who has vowed to be the gatekeeper of the old era," he added.
Meanwhile, Rep. Cho said, "My important responsibility, which is like a destiny, is to help Han Dong-hoon, a new, resolute, strong and warm-hearted young leader, to uphold the Constitution, stabilize the rule of law and protect the people's livelihood.
"Together with candidate Han, we will not hesitate to bring about change and innovation, and we will not dwell on the past but will look only forward. Let's move forward," he said.
He also said, "Together with Candidate Han, we will unite our divided hearts once again across the barriers of generation, region and gender. The people will not be divided. We will unite them wholeheartedly.
"It will bring back lost conservative politics and give us a glimmer of hope."
