In response to the ruling party's demand for former President Yoon to leave the party, former Daegu mayor says, ”Don't throw salt on the body” = South Korea
Hong Jun-pi, who is taking part in the ruling party's primary election to decide the presidential candidate, is facing calls for former President Yoon Seok-yeol to leave the party amid growing calls from within the ruling party's People Power Party.
Former Daegu Mayor Hong Jun-pyo criticized the move, saying, "It is not human nature to cut the body into pieces."
During the Q&A session following the announcement of the “100+1 Social Sector Vision for National Reform in Advanced Nations,” he said, “The issue of former President Yoon’s departure from the party is above politics.
"That is not the human way of doing things," he said. "(Former President Yoon) brought about a change of government as our party's candidate. Of course, he was impeached as a political mistake."
He also said, "We should focus on how to move forward into the future and not throw salt on the body. We should not play politics like that."
Meanwhile, Rep. Ahn Cheol-soo, who is also running in the ruling party primaries, said of former President Yoon, "He must now decide to leave the party."
Rep. Ahn wrote on Fei Subook, "Only when former President Yoon leaves the party can we change the frame from 'judging the administration' to 'generational change.'"
"The departure of a former president from the party is something that should be kept to a minimum in the context of responsible politics."
