People's Power attacks, demanding that Acting Constitutional Court Chief Justice Moon Hyung-bae be removed from President Yoon Seok-yeol's impeachment trial
The People Power Party (ruling party) raised the issue of impartiality due to the close ties between Moon Hyung-bae, acting chief justice of the Constitutional Court, and Lee Jae-myung, the chairman of the Democratic Party, and Yoon Seo-gyul.
On the 29th, Kim Dae-sik, chief floor spokesman for the People's Power, reiterated his call to dismiss President Moon from the impeachment trial.
At a time when the Constitutional Court is reviewing multiple impeachment cases related to Lee, these facts raise public doubts about the fairness and neutrality of the Constitutional Court."
Kim, the senior spokesman for the National Assembly, pointed out that Moon had previously questioned on social media what the truth was about a documentary about the Sewol ferry, and had also posted a documentary that he had made during a visit to the United Nations Memorial Park.
Citing documents and other sources, he said, "It is also problematic in that it has sparked controversy over the judges' past actions and political affiliations, deepening concerns that the fairness of the Constitutional Court may be undermined."
He added, "I want the Constitutional Court to be completely independent from political issues and ensure fairness and transparency. I also want Acting President Moon to provide a clear explanation for past issues and address the public's doubts."
"We hope that Judge Moon will demonstrate a responsible attitude that will clear up these doubts," he said. In a commentary, People's Power spokesman Heo Jun-seok said, "Is Judge Moon a person who makes common sense and rational decisions? Is he a person who is divided by political parties and reason?
"There are growing doubts about whether Judge Moon is an impeachment trial lawyer who is not biased in his views," Ho said.
"Instead of simply deleting the social media posts he made, Judge Moon should honestly express his thoughts to the public," he emphasized.
Na Kyung-won, a member of the People's Power Party, wrote in a Feibook article, "Deputy Moon, Lee Mi-seon, and Ji
Judge Jeong Kye-seon has resigned from the impeachment case against President Yoon and has immediately withdrawn from it, which is the minimum way for them to protect their ethical consciences.
Rep. Na said, "Judge Jeong's spouse works for the same corporation as the lawyer representing the National Assembly, and Judge Lee's brother is a member of the committee promoting the resignation of President Yoon.
Moon is the vice-chairman of the Constitutional Court. It has become clear that he is not suitable to be a constitutional judge, not only because of his friendship with Lee, but also because of his sophistry, such as the June 25 North Korean invasion theory.
"In the case of the impeachment of the president, it seems like they've already decided on the answer and are moving too fast," Rep. Na said. "If the Constitutional Court acts like this, who can accept the Constitutional Court's decision?"
"Will they accept this? It will lead to public resistance against the Constitutional Court, and ultimately to the abolition of the organization and system of the Constitutional Court."
