SEVENTEEN's DK (DO-GYEOM), ”I thought it was Seungkwan but I received the call” - victim of sasaeng who manipulated caller ID... Criminal level shock
The public is shocked by the revelation made by DK (DO-GYEOM) of the Korean boy band SEVENTEEN about the victimization of private fans (fans who stalk celebrities' private lives).
On the 5th, DK held a LIVE STREAM with his fans through the global fandom platform "Weverse". Then, the stream disappeared for a short while.
He came back and explained that he had not turned on the Do Not Disturb mode. If someone called him during a live stream, the broadcast would be interrupted.
"I answered the phone thinking it was Seungkwan, but you called using Seungkwan's name," he said, laughing in disappointment.
Fans can call stars during live streams and find out their real numbers.
Stars also know this, so they block unknown numbers or put them on do-not-disturb mode, but this time it was different.
A Sasaeng fan who was watching STREAM in real time changed the caller ID to that of Seungkwan, a member of the same group, and called DK.
Caller ID manipulation is a technique used in new vishing (voice phishing) where the caller ID is a combination of the last 8 digits and the number of an acquaintance saved in a mobile phone.
If it was just the number, the victim would receive the call by taking advantage of the blind spot where the name of the acquaintance would be displayed to the caller. DK also avoided the sasaeng fan who called pretending to be Seungkwan.
As the illicit fans have reached a serious level where they are resorting to criminal methods, netizens have commented, "This really needs to be punished quickly," and "This is unimaginable bullying."
"SEVENTEEN has previously complained about the damage caused by sasaeng fans on several occasions. JEONG HAN was accused of receiving sasaeng fans' calls during his live stream.
"I know that the person who calls is happy to receive attention, but you know that this is really different," he said angrily, and when MIN-GYU also had a call that continued to come in, the broadcast was cut off, with him saying, "(The call
Who do you think the caller is? I don't know him," he said. Hoshi also responded to the call from a private fan by saying, "Even if you call a restricted number, you can still report and sue them.
"I'm trying to make time to spend quality time with my Carats (fan club name), so why are you constantly being harassed?
"Are they trying to bother me? Are they trying to check if my number is correct? They have no manners," he said. The management office is also dealing with the misconduct of the sasaeng fans, but the damage is still serious.
Recently, there have been growing calls for tougher penalties on stalking laws, as stalkers are no different from criminals, even using methods used in voice phishing to attract attention.
