The new UK law came into force on the 26th (local time). As a result, local police can now collect cryptocurrency without having to arrest criminals.
According to a statement from the UK Home Office, seized cryptocurrency can be transferred to police-controlled wallets, from which victims of crime can apply to recover their funds.
In addition, the enforcement of this bill will allow police to destroy cryptocurrencies if they determine that their circulation in the market is a problem for the public interest.
"The goal of the new changes is to prevent criminals from using cryptocurrencies for illicit purposes, while nurturing their potential to legitimately promote economic growth," the Ministry of Interior explained.
