North Korea in festive mood ahead of late leader Kim Il-sung's birthday
North Korea is in a festive mood on the 14th, just one day before the 112th birthday of the late Chairman Kim Il Sung.
The celebration evening and gunfire wrap-up party were held to promote internal unity and to award medals.
The North is also planning an international event with the participation of 100,000 people. The Korean Central News Agency said, "To mark the birthday of the late Chairman Kim, we will award the Kim Il Sung Order to individuals and groups who have contributed to the construction of socialism and the improvement of the people's lives."
North Korea is focusing on publicity, saying, "Messages celebrating the birthday of the late Chairman Kim, the nation's greatest holiday, have been arriving from all over the world, including Russia."
The daily newspapers also reported that "People from various countries are flocking to Pyongyang to participate in the International Forum on Juche ideology, which is being held in Pyongyang to commemorate the birthday of the late Chairman Kim."
Recently, North Korea's state-run media has begun calling the birthday of the late Chairman Kim Il-sung "the Day of the Sun" instead of "the 112th birthday of the great leader Comrade Kim Il-sung" and "the nation's most joyous April holiday."
