Top international marriage among Korean women is “Vietnamese men”…Why?
This year, Vietnam is the number one nationality of foreign men who have married Korean women internationally.

According to South Korea's Mainichi Economy, 768 Vietnamese men entered South Korea through the marriage immigration system in February. This is an overwhelming number compared to the United States (359), China (351), and Japan (127) during the same period. In January, 440 Vietnamese men entered South Korea through marriage, which also ranked first in terms of nationality.

However, a closer look at this phenomenon reveals that many of the marriage partners of Vietnamese men are "naturalized women from Vietnam" with "Korean nationality".

Many Vietnamese men married 'Vietnamese immigrant women who got Korean nationality after marrying or divorcing Korean men.' Through this, Vietnamese men also acquired Korean nationality.

Behind this, there is a route that "Vietnamese women who have acquired Korean nationality through marriage remarry Vietnamese men after they are left alone due to divorce."

In fact, online cafés that share information on international marriages often mention that their Vietnamese wives, after acquiring Japanese citizenship, left their children behind and eventually divorced.

It is difficult to distinguish whether the reason for divorce is "incompatibility between the couple's personalities" or "the work of a broker who arranging the entire process from marriage to a Korean man to divorce due to nationality laundering". It's not easy. But it does mean that the statistics should be read with reasonable skepticism.

South Korea, which has one of the lowest birth rates in the world, is likely to respond to its population drop by opening its doors to immigration. However, some people point out that "we must accurately grasp the actual situation of the international marriage market."
