Korean white porcelain moon pot sold at Christie's for $4.5M
An 18th-century Joseon-era white porcelain moon jar was sold for $4.56 million at the New York Christie auction held on March 21st (local time).

Estimates were between $1 million and $2 million, but the actual bid was well above that. This work, owned by a Japanese individual, is over 45 centimeters tall and larger than a normal moon jar.

Christie said, "It features a beautiful shape and a beautiful milky white color. It is estimated to be the most splendid work among the moon pots auctioned for the year."

At the auction on the same day, a moon jar from the Joseon Dynasty, slightly smaller than this work, also sold for $100,800.

White porcelain moon pots are made from white porcelain produced from the end of the 17th century to the middle of the 18th century in the late Joseon Dynasty.
