US "support Japan-Korea cooperation to strengthen Japan-US-Korea relations"
On March 16th (local time), the White House clarified its support for South Korea and Japan regarding the summit meeting between South Korean President Yoon Seo-gyul and Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and emphasized the importance of trilateral cooperation between Japan, the United States, and South Korea.

"President Yoon and Prime Minister Kishida held a summit meeting in Tokyo for the first time in 12 years," said John Kirby, National Security Council (NSC) Strategic Communications Coordinator, at a press conference that day.

Kirby said, "Ahead of this meeting, Japan and South Korea made a truly historic announcement on the 6th of this month, opening a new chapter of cooperation and cooperative partnership between the two countries. We welcome this announcement as it seeks to resolve historical issues and improve bilateral relations."

He also said, "The Biden administration has made efforts to strengthen the defence and security alliance between the two in an effort to increase deterrence and peace in the Indo-Pacific region. We have supported the process of increasing cooperation between the two countries in order to strengthen the relationship between the two countries."

"We believe that developing a shared vision for a more secure, stable and prosperous Indo-Pacific is at the heart of this partnership," he added.
