Writer Heo Ji-eun pays tribute to the late Kenzaburo Oe
Writer Heo Ji-eun paid tribute to Kenzaburo Oe, who passed away.

On the 14th, Heo Ji Eun posted a photo of Mr. Oe through SNS.

In this post, Heo Ji-eun said, "Kenzaburo Oe, a Japanese novelist and social activist, has passed away." I tried to give him the Order of Culture, but he refused to receive it because he was a democrat and did not recognize the authority that reigns for the sake of democratic order. Ōe was awarded the Nobel Prize in Literature in 1994 and was offered the Order of Cultural Merit, but declined on the grounds that he "does not recognize authority and values superior to democracy."

Heo Ji-eun said, "Mr. Oe criticized the visit to Yasukuni Shrine and the Nanjing Massacre, and spent his life saying that Japan should fully apologize to history and the victimized nations. Even though he was exposed, he did his best to keep peace until the last moment."

At the end of the post, Heo Ji-eun said, "How should an intellectual live? I think I can do it," and added, "I pray for the repose of the soul."

Mr.Oe was passed away on the 3rd.
