More than half of U.S. women are single
In the United States, the percentage of single women who are not married has reached a record high.

According to Washington (WP) on March 8th (local time), the US financial giant Wells Fargo said in a report on the same day that 52% of American women were single in 2021, more than half of them.

"In particular, the number of unmarried women who have never been married has increased by 20% over the past decade, which is the main reason for the rapid increase in single-female households", the WP said.

In 1900, when the U.S. Census Bureau began tracking marital status, only 7% of women were single.

The age at which people get married also tends to be higher. The age of first marriage for American women in 2021 will be 28, three years older than 25 in 2001.

It is analyzed that this is caused by various changes in the environment, such as perceptions of marriage and employment standards.

In addition, the proportion of households in which a single woman takes the role of head of household increased to 26% of the total. This has led to a larger share of single women in various areas of the U.S. economy, including the job market, housing transactions and consumption.

However, the wage gap between men and women still hinders the economic activities of single women. Wells Fargo reported that single women earned 92% of that of unmarried men last year.
