U.S. imposes additional sanctions on Russia, significantly raising tariffs on metal products
Marking the one-year anniversary of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, the US government has embarked on additional sanctions against Russia and significantly raised tariffs on Russian metal products. At the same time, it announced additional support policies for Ukraine.

According to CNN and other sources on February 24th (local time), the US White House, the State Department, the Defense Department, the Treasury Department, and the Commerce Department released proposed sanctions against Russia on the same day.

A representative example is the sharp increase in tariffs on metal products. The United States tightened sanctions on metal products, including a 200% tariff on Russian aluminum and aluminum-using products. The White House said, "This measure will raise tariffs on more than 100 Russian metals, minerals and chemicals worth about $2.8 billion to Russia," and added, "The cost of entering the U.S. market for Russian products is substantial."

The United States has also designated more than 200 individuals and entities for sanctions. The six individuals, together with Russian government heads, high-ranking officials, and provincial governors, govern the Ukrainian territory illegally occupied by Russia on behalf of the Russian authorities.

It also imposed visa restrictions on 1,219 people, including Russian military personnel. The U.S. entry ban was imposed on Russian military personnel and their families who violated the human rights of Ukrainian residents.

In addition, the US has decided to impose sanctions on Russian financial institutions and Russian defense-related organizations. The United States has already sanctioned major Russian banks, but it has expanded its scope. Moscow Credit Bank, MTS Bank, etc. were added.
