US woman dies after being dragged into water while walking dog
A woman in her 80s was killed by an alligator while walking her dog in Florida.

A crocodile weighing 272 kilograms and 3 meters long suddenly jumped out of the water and rushed at an 85-year-old woman who was walking her dog, according to Reuters and local media on February 22nd.

A neighbor who witnessed this reported it, and the dog was saved, but unfortunately, the woman was bitten and dragged into the water by the crocodile and died.

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) personnel dispatched to the scene captured the alligator alive and suppressed it by tying its mouth and front legs. The crocodile was so large that it took six adult men to transport it in a truck.

Last August, a woman in her 80s from famous Silvertown, South Carolina, was killed by an alligator after falling into a pond while tending her garden.

In the United States, about 10 people die from alligators a year, which is rare, but there were four from May to August last year alone.

During the mating season from May to June, the number of male crocodiles searching for females increases, making them more visible to humans. One of the reasons is that the crocodile habitat is in a residential area.

Alligators arrested for attacking people will be euthanized by the FWC.
