'Alligator' found in NY park... presume to have been abandoned = Korean coverage
An alligator was found in a park in Brooklyn, New York.

On February 20th (local time), according to the American broadcaster ABC, a crocodile about 4 feet long (about 1.2 meters) was found in the water of Prospect Park in Brooklyn.

A parkkeeper said the crocodile was in poor condition and slowed down by the cold when it was spotted the previous morning. Luckily, no one was hurt by the crocodile.

Authorities believe that someone was raising the crocodile and dumping it in the park.

The park management, which received a report the morning before and tried to capture the alligator, transferred the alligator to an animal protection center and immediately arranged for rehabilitation treatment at the Bronx Zoo.

Neighbors couldn't hide their surprise when they heard that a crocodile had appeared in the park.

"This area is primarily a playground for children, so it's surprising to see an alligator," a resident with two children said in an interview with the New York Post.

Wild alligators are common in warmer climates in the southeastern United States, such as Florida and Louisiana.

The highest temperature in New York City on February 19th, when park officials captured the alligator in question, was 9 degrees Celsius.
