A large fire broke out in Kowloon Village in Gangnam District, Seoul, and while firefighting authorities were working to extinguish the fire, the fire was mostly extinguished.

According to the fire department on January 20th, around 9:16 am today, the fire department lowered the response level from level 2 to level 1.

Prior to this, at around 6:27 a.m., the fire department received a report of the fire, and an hour later, around 7:26 a.m., the fire department issued a two-stage fire response, including 145 personnel, 45 equipment, and 4 firefighting helicopters were put in to suppress the fire.

To date, there have been no casualties, and about 500 residents of Kowloon village districts 4, 5, and 6 have evacuated. Approximately 666 households live in Kowloon Village, and it is estimated that 44 households and 62 victims have been affected in four districts of Kowloon Village.

Gangnam Ward evacuated the victims to the Kowloon Junior High School gymnasium, but due to the cold weather, they were moved to village halls and self-governing halls. The ward has secured four hotels (a total of 125 guest rooms) in Gangnam-gu as temporary housing facilities for the victims and is gradually moving them.

To date, 2,700 meters of land have been destroyed by the fire, and it is estimated that about 40 houses in District 4 have been destroyed due to the construction of fire protection lines in Districts 2 and 6. So far, no property damage has been reported in districts 2 and 6.

Fire officials estimate that the unexplained blaze caused the village to expand from four to five. A firefighting official said, "We are putting all our efforts into preventing the spread of the fire, and are cooperating with related organizations to provide aid to victims."
