President Yoon's remarks that Iran is enemy of UAE...Iran's foreign ministry "non-diplomatic, wait for explanation"
After President Yoon Seo-gyul said on January 15th that Iran was the enemy of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said it was waiting for an explanation from the South Korean government.

According to the state-run Iranian news agency (IRNA) and other sources, Iran's foreign ministry spokesman Nasser Canadi said on the 16th (local time) that President Yoon's remarks were about the historic and friendly relationship between Iran and the Persian Gulf countries, including the UAE. He said he had no understanding of the positive developments that were rapidly unfolding in this situation.

He added that the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs is seriously watching and evaluating the recent attitude of the South Korean government, especially President Yoon's remarks on Iran-UAE relations. He explained that the remarks were diplomatically inappropriate.

The Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also said it was waiting for the South Korean government to explain the incident.

Prior to this, on the afternoon of January 15th, President Yoon visited the Korean military "Ark Unit" dispatched to the UAE and encouraged the officers and soldiers, saying, "This is your homeland."

"The UAE's enemy is Iran, and our enemy is North Korea," he said.

In response to a reporter's question about President Yoon's remarks at a press conference held at the UAE Abu Dhabi press center on the 16th, a high-ranking official in the presidential office said, "It has nothing to do with the current relationship between South Korea and Iran."

"It was intended to encourage our soldiers" he said, adding, "I wanted them to work hard while facing the serious security reality facing the UAE."
