"$8 a month" elevator fee for delivery workers... Policy change after residents protest = Korea
At a meeting of representatives of condominium residents in Sejong City, South Korea, an attempt was made to impose an elevator usage fee on parcel delivery workers, but the policy was withdrawn due to objections from residents.

According to Yonhap News on January 14th, the condominium occupant representative meeting recently issued a card key to the communal entrance from February and instructed the courier to enter and exit. Along with this, a card key deposit of 100,000 won (about $80) and a monthly elevator usage fee of 10,000 won (about $8) will be charged.

An official of the apartment said, "We understand that the courier delivery staff is also having a hard time, but there were some complaints that it was inconvenient to use the elevator because the delivery staff pushed all the floors. Some apartment complexes in Sejong City and other areas also charge usage fees".

According to the Ordinance for Enforcement of the Condominium Management Law, the Resident Representative Council can decide whether or not to charge a fee for using shared facilities. This condominium management agreement includes the content that non-residents who frequently use the elevator will be charged a usage fee.

When this fact became known, the condominium management office was flooded with protest calls from residents. It was also pointed out that the card key deposit of 100,000 won (about $80) was excessive.

An official with a courier company in charge of the Sejong area said, "There are some apartment complexes where you have to get a card key to go in and out, but the deposit doesn't exceed 30,000 won (about $23). The security deposit of 100,000 won (about $80) is excessive, and it is outrageous to ask for a fee to use the elevator."

The condominium resident council has decided not to impose a fee for using the elevator machine and to reduce the card key deposit to 50,000 won (about $38).
