Chinese media "If Japan acts as subordinate of US, it will become Ukraine in Asia"
China has raised its "level of restraint" against Japan, which has recently strengthened its close ties with the United States through the Japan-US summit and other events.

On January 16th, the Chinese government-run English-language newspaper Global Times published a column titled "If Japan follows the strategic line of the United States, it risks becoming the Ukraine of Asia." This was written by Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. He recently urged the G7 leaders to build a united front to counter threats from China and North Korea, saying that "East Asia may become next to Ukraine."

In a column in the Global Times, it was pointed out that "Japan is using external threats as an excuse to justify its militarization or become the Ukraine of East Asia."

"The message that Prime Minister Kishida is trying to convey is clear," he said, adding, "The U.S. and its NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) allies, who are focusing on the Ukraine war, are more interested in Japan's security concerns. It's asking for it," the Global Times insisted.

Some experts say, "Behind the recent moves of the Ministry of Finance and the strengthening of the Japan-US alliance, the intention is to induce China to be bogged down in the Taiwan issue, just as Russia is bogged down in the Ukraine war."

Lian Degui, director of the Japan Institute of the Shanghai Institute of International Affairs, said, "The intention of the United States and Japan is to try to interfere with China's unification of Taiwan. We hope that China will provoke such a situation, put China in a dilemma, and then shift the blame and blame it on the war."
