Members of the National Political Research Special Committee from the Democratic Party, the Justice Party, and the Basic Income Party held a meeting in the National Assembly on the afternoon of the same day to find out the truth about the Yongsan Itaewon disaster and prevent a recurrence.
The bereaved family members who participated in the meeting that day criticized the irresponsible attitude of the government and the ruling party regarding the tragedy and demanded a thorough investigation of the truth in the National Assembly.
The mother of the late Choi Min-seok, the victim, said, "I'm curious as to why I couldn't put up a picture of the deceased but moreover, I am wondering why they didn't let the bereaved families meet? They say that sharing is halved, and that joy is doubled when combined. It's a problem", she said in frustration.
In addition, the late Park Ha Young's mother said, "I held the hand of the Sewol ferry (victim)'s mother and said, 'Please take care of yourself,' and 'Time is medicine.' I really comforted her from the bottom of my heart, but now I want to tear my mouth and chest apart," she said tearfully.
Lee Jung-cheol, the father of the late Lee Ji-han, pointed out the absence of members of the ruling party's special committee on parliamentary affairs, saying, "We will build a splendid private residence for President Yoon Seo-gyeol and celebrate his move", and why don't you come face to face with us?"
Democratic Party lawmaker Woo Sang-ho, chairman of the Special Committee on National Politics, also said, "There are committee members who participated in this meeting, and there are committee members who did not participate, but only the meeting with the bereaved family is a meeting that has nothing to do with politics."
