”Body of a child in a bag" … Korean NZ suspect deported to Korea
A 42-year-old Korean New Zealand woman who was accused of being the suspect in a case in which her child's body was found in her bag and has been indicted by a New Zealand court has been deported.

The South Korean Ministry of Justice handed over the suspect to New Zealand on November 28th. It was announced on the 29th that she had simultaneously fulfilled the "two-track international mutual aid" of mutual legal assistance (Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters).

This extradition of criminals has attracted global attention through △ strict compliance with treaties and laws between the two countries, △ close communication through the establishment of a network between the Ministry of Justice and the New Zealand authorities, and △ quick decisions by the Minister of Justice. The Ministry of Justice evaluated that it was a case that created the beginning for the collected cases to be strictly resolved in a short period of time.

An official from the Ministry of Justice said, "It often takes a long time to repatriate criminals who have fled the country, but the extradition of the criminal, in this case, took only three months from the New Zealand government's request for custody to the court's extradition review trial and final extradition. "This case of cooperation with New Zealand will serve as a model for efficient international joint investigations against criminals who have fled overseas."

In addition, "We will intensively promote the repatriation of criminals domestically and internationally and expand the international mutual assistance network so that strict investigations and trials can be conducted for criminals who have fled overseas, which is expected to increase further as the COVID-19 virus eases. We actively support international efforts to crack down on supranational crimes."
