Turkish religious leader sentenced to 8,658 years in prison for sexual assault, child abuse, human rights violations
A professor has been sentenced to over 8,000 years in prison for sexually exploiting women through cyber-religious group activities using TV programs in Turkey.

According to the BBC and other sources, on November 16th (local time), the Istanbul court decided that Adnan Oktar (66), who was indicted on 15 charges including sexual assault, child abuse, human rights violations, and organized crime, was arrested. Sentenced to 8658 years in prison.

Octal was sentenced to 1,075 years in prison last year after being arrested and indicted in 2018 along with more than 200 Christians. Octal appealed, but the sentence was increased eightfold in the retrial. The retrial court gave Octal a heavier sentence, saying he should also be held responsible for the crimes committed by other religious groups.

Oktar dropped out of college in the 1980s and began to gain attention for running a religious organization. Using the name "Harun Yahya", he sometimes wrote books defending creationism and advocating anti-evolutionism. In the 2000s, he opened a TV channel called "A9" and proceeded with the program himself. He surrounded himself with a few women and shared his thoughts on religion and politics.

Oktar, who has expanded the organization since the 1990s, brainwashed and sexually assaulted women in the process, and threatened victims by tricking them into filming the scenes. Some victims testified that Oktar forced them to take contraceptives, and police found 70,000 contraceptive pills in Oktar's home during the actual investigation.

On the same day, 14 of Oktar's aides were also sentenced to long prison sentences. Oktar denied the allegations at the re-trial.
