Starting salaries for university grads raised to $32,000... "Ensuring competitiveness" = Samsung semiconductor division in Korea
South Korean technology company Samsung Electronics will raise the starting salary for university graduates in the semiconductor (DS) sector to 53 million won (about US$32,000).

According to industry sources, Samsung Electronics said in an internal announcement on the same day that the DS division would raise the starting salary for college graduates to 53 million won to ensure competitiveness in recruiting.

The starting salary for university graduates was 51.5 million won (about $30,000), but this was raised by 2.9%. The wage increase will be reflected this month.

This decision is interpreted as a decision to secure excellent human resources by matching the starting salary for college graduates to the same level as SK Hynix. SK Hynix raised the starting salary for new college graduates to 53 million won in July this year.

Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are competing with each other to raise the starting salaries of new college graduates as the shortage of human resources in the semiconductor industry become serious.
