World Population Exceeds 8B, Expected to Reach 10.4B in 2080
The world population will reach 8 billion on November 15th. After surpassing 7 billion people in 2011, it has increased by 1 billion people in 11 years.

"The world population is expected to reach 8 billion on the 15th," the United Nations said on its website on the same day.

The world population increased from 2.5 billion in 1950 to 4 billion in 1974 and 5 billion in 1987.

"This is a signal that the overall growth rate of the world's population is slowing," the United Nations said.

Although the population growth rate is gradually declining, it is projected that the population will exceed 9 billion by 2037, as high fertility rates are maintained mainly in poor countries.

The United Nations predicts that the population will peak at 9.7 billion in 2050 and 10.4 billion in 2080 and that this level will be maintained until 2100.
