South Korea's Incheon Metropolitan City has launched a bid to host the 2023 AFC Asian Cup in Incheon.
According to the city of Incheon on September 19th, the Korean Football Association (KFA) has officially submitted an application for South Korea to host the 2023 AFC Asian Cup on 15th. South Korea's Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has identified "integration with Hallyu culture" as a core strategy for attracting the country. Qatar and Indonesia are competing to attract the Games, and the venue will be decided on October 17th. Incheon City submitted a letter of intent to host the 2023 AFC Asian Cup to the Korean Football Association and began full-scale bid activities. Incheon's "strength" is its experience of many international events such as the 2014 Asian Games and its position as an international gateway city. Munhak Stadium in Incheon is where Korea advanced to the round of 16 after defeating Portugal in the 2002 World Cup.
