At a regular press conference on the morning of August 3rd, Chief Cabinet Secretary Hirokazu Matsuno, a spokesperson for the Japanese government, said, "Japan's EEZ is included in the target waters for military exercises that China teased that it will begin on 4th. We expressed our concerns to the Chinese side in consideration of the content of the military activity of shooting exercises."
“Peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait is important not only for the security of Japan but also for the stability of the international community,” Matsuno added, adding, “We hope that the Taiwan issue will be resolved peacefully through dialogue.”
He declined to comment on Pelosi's visit to Taiwan, saying, "The Japanese government is not in a position to comment."
The day before, China announced that it would launch a series of joint military operations around Taiwan after Pelosi insisted on visiting Taiwan despite China's objections.
China's state-run news agency Xinhua introduced the latitude and longitude of the six areas surrounding Taiwan, and said that the People's Liberation Army (PLA) will conduct important military exercises and live fire in the relevant waters and airspace from noon on August 4th to noon on 7th.
