[Official] Japanese tourism to Korea finally visa-free = 1 month in August
The South Korean government will temporarily allow visa-free entry for tourists from Japan, Taiwan and Macau for the month of August.

The city of Seoul confirmed visa-free entry at the 100th meeting of related departments to assess the situation of foreign influx, attended by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Agency for Disease Control and Prevention on the 3rd. The targets are Japan, which ranked second in the number of tourists visiting South Korea in 2019 after China (3.27 million), Taiwan (1.26 million), and Macao (50,000/23rd).

The city of Seoul, which is preparing for the “Seoul Festa 2022,” which will host electric car races and K-POP performances from the 10th to the 14th of this month, have asked the government to reopen the country to allow for visa-free travel for these countries and regions from June this year in order to attract tourists.

Recently, demand for travel is gradually recovering, and an increasing number of foreigners are planning to visit South Korea during the summer vacation.

A representative of the city of Seoul said, “With the decision to resume visa-free entry into the three countries and regions, it is expected that the inconvenience of visiting South Korea and traveling will be improved."

However, since the spread of the COVID-19 virus, the electronic travel permit system (K-ETA) has been implemented from September 2021 for countries and regions that allow visa-free entry. Even if you don't need a visa, you need to apply for the K-ETA Q-CODE 72 hours before departure and obtain permission.

The city of Seoul announced that during the Seoul Festa, which is expected to attract a large number of people, thorough preparations will be made, such as disinfecting the venue, measuring body temperature, and deploying safety personnel to ensure that spectators comply with the epidemic prevention.

Choi Kyung-joo, head of the Seoul Tourism and Sports Bureau, said, "Although the month of August is a temporary period, we are working to revitalize tourism in Seoul and promote the tourism industry so that foreign tourists visiting Seoul can experience various aspects of Seoul. We will do our best to restore demand," he said.
