Mask is "underwear for face" ... Japanese will not remove masks even for concerns about heat stroke = Korean coverage
"The mask is like 'an underwear for face', it's embarrassing to take off it."

Prior to the arrival of summer, the Japanese government issued a recommendation that masks should not be worn outdoors, but the Yomiuri Shimbun, one of Japanese major papers, recently reported that there are still many heat stroke patients who are particular about wearing masks.

The Government of Japan recommends that if people do not have a conversation outdoors, they may take the mask off indoors if they are at least 2 meters away from surroundings and are not having a conversation. However, it turned out that some young Japanese people were afraid to take off their masks and even had "mask addiction".

The Nihon Keizai Shimbun, a Japanese economic paper, said, "Some young people call masks 'underwear for face' in the sense that taking masks off is like taking off their underwear." In a questionnaire survey conducted by Japan Information, a public opinion polling agency, 54.5% of the respondents answered that they would wear a mask even after the COVID-19 virus infection was over.

On the other hand, Korean internet users responded critically, such as "The idea is really Japanese" and "Is it a voyeur of panty if the face of a person passing by while taking a picture enters?"

However, some say, "Not only in Japan. Many people in South Korea are ashamed to take off their masks."

On the other hand, due to the atmosphere that dislikes taking masks off, many patients with heat stroke have recently occurred in Japan. On June 10th, 8 students who completed a physical fitness test at an elementary school in Numazu City, Shizuoka Prefecture, complained of headache and nausea and were taken to the hospital. On the same day, 17 children who relayed in a physical education class at an elementary school in Osaka City complained of heat stroke, and one of them was taken to the hospital. It is said that 14 out of 17 children wore masks during physical education classes.
