The "Council for Cooperation with North Korea", which is a consultation organization for humanitarian aid organizations for North Korea in South Korea, has recently responded swiftly to the North and South authorities by spreading the COVID-19 virus in North Korea.

On May 19th, a press conference was held at the Korea Press Center in Jung-gu, Seoul, about the "Request for Resumption of Humanitarian Cooperation between North and South Korea to Overcome the North COVID-19 Virus". The press conference was hosted by the North Korean Council, the Korean Council for Reconciliation and Cooperation, and the Citizens' Peace Forum.

Officials from the North Korean cooperation group who participated in the meeting said, "In the midst of concerns about the long-standing sanctions against North Korea, the blockade of borders, and the humanitarian crisis caused by repeated natural disasters, the recent situation in North Korea the spread of the COVID-19 virus in North Korea further deepens such a crisis."

He continued, "The Korean government must unconditionally support us with the necessary supplies such as medicines, medical supplies, and diagnostic tools, including vaccines for the COVID-19 virus."

The groups also argued that in support of North Korea, only a humanitarian perspective should be taken, without political arithmetic. They also suggested that "North Korea must positively consider the government's COVID-19 virus-related support proposal."

"The government must ensure the substantial results and sustainability of its support for COVID-19 virus-related North Korea through joint cooperation with the private sector," and urged the private sector to increase its space through the North-South cooperation project.

The group that participated in the press conference revealed that it plans to provide a total of 10 million dollars in supplies at the private level. These groups will use all available routes early next week to communicate their position to the North Korean side. The support route said that land support would be given priority in order to ensure the speed of transportation.
