The South Korean government regretted the Japanese government's release of treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant into the ocean.

On the 3rd, the South Korean government held a briefing session between the Japanese and South Korean governments on the draft of the "Radiation Impact Assessment Report for the Release of Fukushima Nuclear Power Plant Treated Water into the Ocean" released by TEPCO of Japan last month.

From the Korean side, 5 ministries and agencies under the task force (TF) related to the response to treated water from the Fukushima nuclear power plant (Korea State Coordination Office, Korea Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Korea Nuclear Safety Commission, Korea Science and Technology Information and Communication Department, Korea Marine Fisheries Department) However, from the Japanese side, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Agency for Natural Resources and Energy, and TEPCO attended.

The South Korean side expressed regret that the Japanese side released a report premised on the release to the ocean, despite repeated concerns expressed by the South Korean government. They reiterated concerns about the impact of ocean stocking on people and the environment.

In particular, the relevant ministries and agencies on the Korean side raised the main assumptions and methodological questions of this report based on the results of the expert's examination, and requested additional materials. It has repeatedly requested transparent information disclosure and sincere consultations from neighboring countries, including South Korea, which are concerned about the release of contaminated water from nuclear power plants into the ocean.

The South Korean government said, "We will continue to give top priority to the health and safety of the people, and will actively respond to the Fukushima nuclear power plant treated water problem centered on the relevant ministries and agencies TF under the supervision of the Office for Government Policy Coordination."
