<W Contribution> Korean intellectuals explain why the "Rising Sun Flag Prohibition Law", which can be a suicide act, should not be passed.
*The Moon Jae-in administration, which took power in 2017, secured about 60% of the seats in April 2020. The "Rising Sun Flag Prohibition Law," which seemed easy for the Moon administration, has not yet been enacted.

On October 2nd, 2018, a member of the Democratic Party of Korea, the ruling party, proposed an amendment to the law prohibiting the use of the Rising Sun Flag.

The main content is the imprisonment for up to 2 years, or a fine of up to 3 million won for vessels displaying symbols such as the Rising Sun Flag from navigating Korean territorial waters, clothing and flags that symbolize the Rising Sun Flag. Those who make and disseminate mascots, wear them, and walk outside.

If this law comes into effect in South Korea, Japan will come to help in the event of an emergency on the Korean Peninsula, even if the U.S. Forces Korea and the South Korean Army suddenly face a situation that requires external support. The approach of the Self-Defense Forces is prohibited.

Not only this. The firepower possessed by the US Forces Japan, which is centered on the Air Force and the Navy, is powerful. However, if you look closely at the symbols (marks) of each unit of the U.S. Forces Japan, there are very many cases where the pattern of the Rising Sun Flag is included. If so, no matter how powerful the USFK's firepower is, in the event of an emergency on the Korean Peninsula, the USFK will enter the land of South Korea to support the USFK and the Korean Army.

In addition, no matter where you live in Korea, no matter how much you personally like the design that the sun spreads in all directions and similar patterns, you will wear such designs and similar patterns in the future. If you carry it around, you will be arrested and will be able to live a two-year prison life. This will create a society that is not much different from North Korea.

Koreans dare to compare the Rising Sun Flag with the Nazi flag. However, the two are very different in character from each other. The Nazi flag should, of course, be the subject of hatred and, of course, banned today, as it is a symbol of a political party called the Nazis who committed the worst human crime of racial slaughter.

However, the Rising Sun Flag is different. It is not a symbol of criminal groups, but in the past it was the official flag of the Japanese Navy, and today it is legally the official flag of the Japan Maritime Self-Defense Force.

People all over the world are uniformly angry at the Nazi flag, but this is basically the reason why they are not angry at the Rising Sun Flag at all.

Koreans who are busy branding the Rising Sun Flag as a "war criminal flag" for no reason are wondering why they wouldn't say anything to the Rising Sun Flag. The Korean perception that "the rising sun flag is fine, but the rising sun flag is not good" is a logical contradiction.

At the time of the Pacific War, the Japanese army wages the war with far more rising sun flags than the rising sun flag. Old U.S. soldiers often return items that were once captured from the Japanese army at the time of the war to Japanese bereaved families and descendants, but most of the items returned are the "Japanese flag." It's not the Rising Sun Flag.

Considering this reality, today's Koreans become normal only when they are even more angry with the Rising Sun Flag rather than the Rising Sun Flag. Otherwise, at the very least, it is logical and common sense only if you get angry at the Rising Sun Flag at exactly the same level.

After all, the psychology of today's Koreans who are angry only at the Rising Sun Flag without saying anything to the Rising Sun Flag is, "Since the ban on the Rising Sun Flag is practically impossible, it is the first time to bite at the Rising Sun Flag instead. The anger will subside a little."

In the 21st century, the case of such a pan-national former and unusually irritable reaction towards the legitimate flag of a particular country, even a free camp friend, is biased towards "racism." There is no explanation other than that it is because of the dew.

The "Rising Sun Flag Prohibition Law" is, in a nutshell, an anachronistic (pre-modern) law that reflects racially discriminatory attributes and goes against the times. This law can also be a "suicide act" with a suicidal character (blocking external support in the event of an emergency) that can put South Korea itself in difficult situations.
