US Secretary of State "Japan-U.S.-Korea summit, new chapter of trilateral alliance" … "Strong measures will be taken to strengthen security"
US Secretary of State Antony Brinken praised the Japan-US-South Korea summit to be held in the US on August 18th (local time), calling it a "historic meeting that opens a new chapter in trilateral relations."

"U.S. President Joe Biden will preside over the Japan-U.S.-South Korea summit at Camp David," said Blinken at a press conference on the 15th.

"This meeting will be held at a time when the regional and international situation is in a geopolitical competition due to climate change, Russia's invasion of Ukraine, and nuclear threats," said Brinken. "It's time to strengthen and renew the cohesion between our alliances."

He continued, "On this occasion, we will be able to confirm our shared vision of a 'free, open, prosperous and stable Indo-Pacific. It means that issues will be resolved openly, rules will be transparently followed, and property and people will move freely and legally."

"Japan and South Korea are core allies not only within the region but globally, and strengthening triangular cooperation is important not only for the United States but also within the region and internationally," he said, adding, "This is important for peace and peace in the Indo-Pacific. To deepen prosperity and reinforce our commitment to the complete denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula."

"Leaders will discuss measures to strengthen the military in various fields such as security, economic security, finance and core technology," said Blinken. "We look forward to further strengthening our partnership in the future."

In response to the question, "To what extent do you discuss the issue of China and North Korea at the summit?" he said, "Since 2015, Japan, the United States, and South Korea have concentrated their discussions on the North Korea issue." At the same time, it is also important to discuss the unique vision of a 'free and open Indo-Pacific'."

He continued, "A considerable part of the talks will be about security, including economic security."

Regarding the regularization of the Japan-U.S.-South Korea summit, he said, "(Regularization) is something that we expect from the results of the talks. We are satisfied with the plan. It is safe and meets international standards, including those of the IAEA (International Atomic Energy Agency)."

Meanwhile, Minister Brinken expressed his condolences for the death of the father of South Korean President Yoon Seo-gyul.
