Lotte Energy Materials to build 30K-ton copper foil plant in Spain  Korea coverage
Lotte Energy Materials (formerly Iljin Materials), a manufacturer of secondary battery materials, invested a total of 560 billion won on August 7th to start annual production in Mun-Roch Dal Kham, Catalonia, Spain. The company announced that it will start leveling the ground for a 30,000-ton high-end copper foil plant for electric vehicle (EV) batteries in the second half of the year.

The company had planned to build a 25,000-ton scale smart factory by 2024, but in anticipation of an increase in orders from European customers, it expanded production to 30,000 tons. The completion schedule has been adjusted to 2025.

With a total area of 440,400 square meters, it is large enough to install a 100,000-ton high-end copper foil production line. The first phase of this investment will be a construction project worth 30,000 tons. After that, considering the construction of the line in stages, we plan to secure a site of about 500,000 square meters for solar power generation along with prior investment in infrastructure.

The company currently produces 60,000 tons of copper foil in Iksan, South Korea and 40,000 tons in Malaysia. In addition to the 20,000-ton expansion at the Malaysian factory, which will be completed at the end of the year, and the 30,000-ton expansion at the Spanish factory, we are actively considering plans to expand production facilities for a total of 130,000 tons in Malaysia, Spain, and North America. there is Through these efforts, the company aims to increase copper foil production to 240,000 tons by 2028.
