China execute one Korean drug offender for first time in 9y since 2014
A South Korean man has been executed for smuggling and selling drugs in China.

According to South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs on August 4th, a South Korean citizen who had been sentenced to death for selling drugs in China was executed on the same day. It is the first time in nine years since 2014 that a South Korean drug offender has been executed in China.

A Ministry of Foreign Affairs official said, "From a humanitarian point of view, the government regrets that our people were executed. It has repeatedly requested that the execution be reconsidered or postponed."

The man was arrested in 2014 and has been on trial for trying to sell 5kg of methamphetamine in China.

According to Article 347 of the Chinese Criminal Law, anyone who smuggles, transports, or manufactures opium weighing 1kg or more, heroin or Methamphetamine weighing 50g or more, or other drugs in large quantities shall be sentenced to imprisonment of not less than 15 years, life imprisonment, or It provides for the death penalty and confiscation of property.
