"My bed shook"… Jeollabuk-do Jangsu M3.5 earthquake = Korea
A 3.5-magnitude earthquake struck 17km north of Jangsu County, Jeollabuk-do, South Korea at around 7:07 p.m. on July 29th, the Korea Meteorological Administration said.

Initially announced as a magnitude of 4.1, it has been adjusted downward. The epicenter was 35.8 degrees north latitude and 127.53 degrees east longitude.

Jeollabuk-do, where the quake occurred, had the highest seismic intensity of 5. It means that most people feel the vibration level. In fact, citizens of Jeonju and Iksan said, “I was surprised when I was lying down,” and “the bed shook.”

In Gyeongsangnam-do, Chungnam, and Chungbuk, seismic intensity 3, Gyeongsangbuk-do, Gwangju, Daejeon, and Jeollanam-do was 2.

A seismic intensity of 3 means that "people in the room, especially those on the upper floors of the building, will feel the tremor remarkably, and a stopped car will shake a little. As much as you can feel it.”

This earthquake is the third largest among the earthquakes that occurred on the Korean Peninsula and the surrounding seas this year.

This year, 10 earthquakes of magnitude 3.0 or higher occurred on the Korean Peninsula and surrounding waters.

There was one earthquake with a magnitude of 4.0 or higher (on May 15th, 52 kilometers northeast of Gangwon Donghae city), and the remaining nine were between 3.0 and 4.0. A total of 59 earthquakes with a magnitude of 2.0 or higher occurred this year.

The Japan Meteorological Agency said, "We would like you to refer to information on aftershocks, etc.," and requested that "you may feel seismic motion in areas near the earthquake, so please pay attention to safety."

The Ministry of Public Administration and Safety has activated the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters Emergency Level 1 and issued a crisis alert "warning." The emergency stages of the Central Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters are divided into stages 1 to 3, and crisis warnings are in the order of "interest, caution, vigilance, and serious."
