Last month, an internet user wrote, "The Greater Bay Area (9 cities in Hong Kong, Macau, and Guangdong) is a world-class tourist destination, and its economic strength, population size, and number of tourists are enough to build another Disneyland." The person also suggested that Guangzhou, one of the popular tourist cities, should actively attract the Disneyland business.
In response to this post, the Guangzhou Municipal Culture, Radio, Telecommunications and Tourism Bureau said on the 10th of this month, "Large-scale projects such as Disney will greatly promote the development of the city's tourism industry and upgrade of urban consumption. Attracting large-scale projects is one of the important tasks for Guangzhou to develop the tourism industry."
There are currently six Disneylands around the world. California and Florida in the United States, Hong Kong and Shanghai in China, Paris in France, and Tokyo in Japan.
Shanghai Disney Resort, which opened in 2016, has attracted attention as a Hot Topic theme park in the country. In the seven years since its opening, the cumulative number of visitors has exceeded 113 million, tourism revenue has reached 61.5 billion former, and 15,000 direct jobs have been created.
On the other hand, in China, rumors recently circulated online that a third Disneyland would be built in China, with cities such as Qingdao, Wuhan, Tianjin, Chengdu and Chongqing being named as possible sites, but local authorities denied all of them.
