Official operation of Incheon Airport Terminal 2 remote boarding facility = Korea
South Korea's Incheon International Airport Corporation announced that it will be the first airport in South Korea to introduce a remote boarding facility at Terminal 2 of Incheon Airport, and that it will officially operate from June 1st.

A remote boarding facility is a boarding facility built for passengers who use aircraft from the boarding gate of the mooring (aircraft movement area).

A typical remote boarding gate uses a step car (a special vehicle with stairs for getting on and off the aircraft) from the outside, and is often affected by weather conditions as you board the aircraft.

However, the remote boarding facility that has started operating this time is in the form of a building, which has the advantage that travelers can board the aircraft from the boarding bridge connected to the room regardless of weather conditions.

Due to these advantages, it operates remote boarding facilities at major airports such as Los Angeles Airport in the US and Munich Airport in Germany. Incheon Airport was the first airport in Korea to introduce the system.

The corporation built two remote boarding facilities (west side) at Incheon Airport Terminal 2 mooring area in May last year, and added two more (east side) in May this year. From August of last year to May of this year, a test operation was conducted using actual aircraft and virtual passengers at the western remote boarding facility.

Based on the results of the trial operation, the corporation identified and supplemented the problems and shortcomings of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and airlines.

The remote boarding facilities that will start operating are two on the east side of Terminal 2 and two on the west side. Each facility has a surface area of 550 square meters and two floors above ground. Equipped with passenger convenience facilities such as escalators, elevators, and cooling/heating air-conditioning facilities.

The corporation expects that the operation of this facility will enable efficient airport operation during the busy summer season (the time when flights and passengers are concentrated).
