Korea expresses 'deep regret and concern' over North Korea's election to WHO executive board
The South Korean government expressed deep regret and concern over North Korea's election to the World Health Organization (WHO) executive board.

"The government expresses deep regret and concern over the election of North Korea to the WHO executive board at the 76th World Health Assembly," South Korea's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a commentary by a spokesperson on May 29th.

In particular, "North Korea, which has consistently violated UN Security Council resolutions and ignored the authority of the United Nations, must comply with the international norms aimed at by the United Nations and contribute to the promotion of global health as a WHO executive member. It is doubtful whether it will meet the standards."

North Korea joined Australia, Barbados, Cameroon, Comoros, Lesotho, Qatar, Switzerland, Togo and Ukraine as a new member of the WHO Executive Board at the 76th World Health Assembly meeting held in Geneva, Switzerland on the 26th (local time).

According to the Voice of the United States (VOA) broadcast, the US representative to the WHO said after the vote, "We are deeply concerned that the North Korean government, one of the new members of the council, does not share our values."
